The St. Paul’s Ministries

Although a ministry is usually defined as the duties and services of a minister, in the Christian faith
a ministry may be led either by a member of the clergy or a layperson.

At St. Paul’s, the ministries and their support functions provide many opportunities for all
interested members of the church to provide valuable services to the church and its congregation.

The St. Paul’s Ministries are Worship, Outreach, Adult Education, Youth and Children,
Pastoral Care, Parish Life and Fellowship, and Membership.
The Support Functions are the Senior Warden (Management), Junior Warden (Operations), Communications, Management, and Finance.

The duties of the Senior Warden are described below. To learn about the other St. Paul’s ministries and their support functions, click on the links at the bottom of this page.

Senior Warden

By Lynda Miller

The responsibilities of a Senior Warden are many. As the current Senior Warden at St. Paul’s I believe that I am a servant of the parishioners, and it is my duty to respect everyone and be fair and honest in all my dealings with the congregation and the rector.

The Senior Warden must endeavor to provide leadership in the vestry, and commit to giving time to vestry meetings and retreats, regular meetings with the rector to discuss concerns and events, diocesan meetings as necessary, weekly worship services, adult education programs, hospitality hours, meals, and other events and fundraisers.

In addition, the Senior Warden must be available to discuss any and all concerns with members of the congregation; try to avoid making hasty judgments, weighing all aspects of each matter brought to me. It is necessary to be prepared to assist the rector and step in for whatever is necessary for the benefit of St. Paul’s, bearing in mind the diocesan and national canons by which we must all abide.

Personally, I enjoy writing a monthly letter to the congregation. These letters vary in their topics, but I try to include an uplifting message. I'm not sure I'm always successful, but I am happy to say that many people report how much they enjoy my letters.
It is a privilege to serve the people of St. Paul’s.
